I did not believe in green juice. Let me just say that upfront.
I thought it was the kind of thing people with too much time and too little joy did. I thought it tasted like a garden after rain, and not in a good way. I resisted it for a long time. And then I had a season where my gut was a mess, my skin was dull in a way that no amount of water seemed to fix, and I was waking up tired in a way that sleep was not solving.
I was not sick. I was just not well. There is a difference.
A friend told me to try juicing for two weeks before I dismissed it. I tried it. And something shifted.
What I juice every morning
The base is always cucumber and celery. Not exciting. Not glamorous. But these two things together do something to your gut lining that I cannot explain scientifically but I can tell you from three months of daily experience.
Then I add spinach. A generous handful. A full apple for the sweetness that makes the whole thing drinkable. Half a lemon, squeezed in after juicing because the heat from the motor damages the vitamin C if you juice it directly. A thumb of fresh ginger. And if I have it, a small piece of turmeric root.
That is it. No powders. No supplements dissolved in. Just those things, juiced, drunk immediately before I eat or drink anything else.
What changed
The first thing I noticed was my stomach. I had been bloated in a way that had become my normal. By the end of week one it was gone. Not reduced. Gone.
The second thing was my skin. By week three people were asking me what I was doing differently. I was not doing anything differently except the juice.
The third thing was my mood in the mornings. I am not a morning person and I am not claiming this juice turned me into one. But there was something about starting the day with something intentional, something that was genuinely good for my body, that changed the relationship I had with my own mornings.
A few things I learned
Drink it on an empty stomach or it does not work the same way. The gut needs to receive it without having to compete with anything else.
Cold pressed is better than centrifugal juicing if you can afford the machine. But any juicer is better than no juicer. Do not let perfect stop you from starting.
Drink it immediately. Juice oxidises. What is sitting in the fridge two hours later is not the same thing.
Two weeks is the minimum before you decide if it is working. One week is not enough for your body to show you anything real.
I am not saying this will do for you exactly what it did for me. Bodies are not all the same. But I am saying that what you put into your body first thing in the morning sets a tone that carries through the day in ways you will only notice once you have been consistent long enough.
Start there. The rest follows.
